Condition Stimuli

Condition Stimuli

When stimuli have been created, they can be used as a warning, precue, or imperative stimulus.

o Right click on the condition you want to add the stimulus to > properties > stimuli.

o Warning Stimulus: A stimulus can be displayed as a warning immediately after the trial starts. To warn participants that an imperative stimulus will be following soon.

EXAMPLE: Ready?

o Precue Stimulus: A stimulus can be displayed as a precue, which will appear after a warning stimulus and prior to the imperative stimulus. It offers (partly or complete) information to the participant about the imperative stimulus but the participant is not supposed to start the writing movement yet.

EXAMPLE 1: Write: eelleell
EXAMPLE 2: Write: eelleell or elelelel

o Duration(s): The duration of the warning and/or precue stimulus is adjustable and will be displayed on the screen for this amount of time. Duration is only available to set if a stimulus has been selected for the warning and/or precue.

o Latency (s): The time interval(s) between the end of a Warning Stimulus and the Start of a Precue Stimulus AND between the end of a Precue Stimulus and the Start of an Imperative Stimulus. The Imperative Stimulus is displayed throughout the entire recording time (although with timed elements, the Imperative Stimulus could "appear" to have a duration). Latency is only available if a stimulus has been selected for the warning and/or precue.

o Imperative Stimulus: Choose the stimulus from the drop down menu that should actually appear during the recording. Indicates to the participant to perform the writing movement immediately.

EXAMPLE 1: Go!
EXAMPLE 2: elelelel

o NOTE: The trial begins recording at the onset of the Imperative stimulus.

o NOTE: Refer to the section on Stimuli, to see how you can create a precue or imperative stimulus.

o Stop recording on wrong target? : The recording can be stopped if the subject hits the wrong target by checking this option.

o Begin recording when pen touches tablet: This switch provides two options to specify when the recording should actually start.

If "Begin recording when pen touches tablet" is selected, the program waits for a pen-down after trial start/imperative stimulus start for start time to begin recording, say, 5 sec (Experiment settings > recording > timeout). If the pen is still up after the first 5 sec, the recording has actually not started, the program will restart the recording with the following message: "No data was recorded. Trial will be redone. To terminate experiment or condition, select appropriate button above".

If the switch is unchecked, the recording starts immediately at imperative stimulus onset, regardless of pen-up, pen-down, or start time. Even if there is no pen-down throughout the recording, the program records the pen-ups and proceeds to the next trial without any messages.
