Experiment Input Device

Input Device Settings

The device settings contain parameters specific for operating the device to collect data. Device settings can be specified in MovAlzyeR under Settings > Select Input Device. In general, the device settings (specifiable or non-specifiable) depend upon the device, computer hardware, operating system or system setting.

However, some devices do not permit the specification of some device settings (for example, the sampling rate of the mouse cannot be set). In these cases, select Settings > Test Input Device to measure or estimate appropriate settings.

These values are only a guideline for each experiment. Actual device settings will be stored with each subject within the experiment at the time the recording is completed. Changing the values here will NOT affect each subject's actual settings. Processing and charts will use the experiment input device settings UNLESS the subject's values have been set during an experiment.

Clicking the "Acquire Device Settings" button will poll the current input device to obtain its sampling rate and device resolution.

Sampling rate (Hz)

The number of samples per second.(Hz = 1/second). Obtained from test/record input device.

Device resolution (cm or N)

The distance in cm that corresponds with a data difference of 1. Obtained from test/record input device.

Gripper: Set the resolution to 1 N.

Min. Pen Pressure or lift force (N) of Z position (cm)

The minimum pen-to-paper pressure to define the pen as touching the paper, otherwise the pen is considered lifted.

Increasing this value to 2 (for example), will require a higher pressure from the pen for the program to recognize that there is a pen-down.

Max. Pen Pressure for alert (beep) during recording

The maximum pen-to-paper pressure which when applied will cause the software to produce a beeping sound.

Record Tilt (if supported by input device)

The azimuth and altitude tilt angles of the pen are recorded. The digitizer must support this feature for it to work.

NOTE 1: Every time you change the digitizer, or one input device to another, it is necessary that you change the sampling frequency and resolution accordingly in the settings window, per experiment. However, this will not impact any previously recorded data.

NOTE 2: If you have the device selected as mouse, but are actually using the pen to make a recording, the sampling rate and resolution would be different from either tablet and mouse. These values have to determined separately for this mode as described above and used in the experiment settings for the correct results.
